Any good beer making kits out there? My boyfriend wants a beer making kit for Christmas. Any suggestions for a good one? I'm afraid he'll end up with some crappy tasting beer or a cheap kit that doesn't even work right. I don't want to spend a whole lot on this. Or would I be better off just ordering the things needed?...whatever they are!
What happened to all the Wine and Beer making Kits .? Around 10 to 15 Years ago or was it 20 I got a mad Craze to make my own Wine then Beer. I ended up making Beautiful Wine ,then tried making Cider. The Cider was not bad,but I just continued making Wine. Then I stopped making it for Years and forgot about it. At that time the Hobby became very Popular,Kits could be bought in nearly every Shop from Department Store to Booksellers to the Corner Convenience Shop in Ireland. I could Buy a Kit in Easons in O'Connell Street Dublin any time I wanted to. However a couple of Years ago I pondered on whether it would be a good thing to Renew my Hobby again just for the Fun of trying to make a Brilliant Wine or Cider or Beer. Result dismay and Chagrain no more Kits to be seen anymore, they just disappeared off the scene . Why has this happened was it the Government putting its big Boot in things by Regulations Jealous because they were not making any Tax on it. Or was it the Drinks Industry complaining about it being unfair on them, quoting some obscure EU Regulation or other. My question is why has all the Home Wine and Beer Kits disappeared in Ireland ,have they disappeared in Britain as well Curious ????????. I could do things the Hard way of course by Pressing Grapes and letting it Ferment Naturally by acquiring it's own Yeast,I still have the Demijohn Gallon Jars. and the rest of the Paraphernalia . Beer might be Harder I would have to source Hops Etc but it could be done. Why have the Kits disappeared. Edit , Jane M ,I have not seen any in the Shops in Ireland but I will Google it for Fun to see what the Story is,Thanks.

Making beer, airlock question? I bought a beer making kit, and in the instructions it didn't say to put the airlock on the big plastic bucket. I now look on the internet and it says that I should have one on there. I made it Friday evening and I put it on this morning, so it's been in contact with the air for 3.5 days. Will this ruin the batch?

I want to learn how to brew my own beer....which starter kits are the best/most legit? ...I'm looking for one in the >$200.00 range. I've heard that the "Mr. Beer" set-up is total BS, and it really more of a children's hobby kit than an actual set-up that helps you learn the brew process. Which kits out there really work and really help you understand how to make beer? I'm looking for advice from people who already know how to brew. Links, advice, enouragement appreciated. Thanks.
Are the "Mr.Beer" kits a good way to learn how to brew your own beer? I see these kits everywhere, and I've been interested in learning how to do this for quite some time. I've read online about what you would need to brew your own beer, and it doesn't sound too difficult. However, assembling all of the parts sounds like it could take a while and be expensive, and these Mr. Beer kits give you all the stuff you need for under $150.00. My question is...is there anyone who has used the Mr. Beer kit and liked it? Was it worth it? Have you moved on from using it to build your own system? Is the process of making brewing with the Mr. Beer kit helpful in making you learn how to brew beer professionally or is it just kind of a toy that is nothing at all like actually brewing beer? thanks!
what is the difference between a beer or wine kit? i looked at the parts and it looks the same. i got a beer kit that comes with 2- 5 gallon buckets and the siphon and the hydrometer and everything. so can i buy a wine ingredient kit and use my beer kit to make it?
Home beer making, need help in final stage..............? I'm making Bitter at home with a home kit. Fermentation all went fine, bottled it all up today and looks n' smell fine. Last stage before capping the bottles was to 'add half a teaspoon of sugar per pint', when I did the beer frothed up and over the bottles : ( I did it to each one anyway as obviously it's part of it, but it didn't mention this might happen. It was obviously a bit messy too and now my shed will probably smell like a boozer from now on! I capped them all when it'd disappeared but why did this happen? Have I done something wrong? Thanks in advance. Mike.
Need Help Making Home Beer.? I'm making home beer using the Mr.Beer kit. I want some ideas as to where to store the Keg (and later bottles) during the fermentation process. I live in Houston (Texas) so the temp outside can vary quite a bit. Especially this time of year. What do you think the ideal spot would be? Can I use my refrigerator? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, any recommendations on which type to brew to make (Ex. Octoberfest's Vienna Lager) beside the one it comes with would be great. Thanks.
How to make 20% alcohol without a distiller? Hi, me and a buddy have a home beer making kit and we wanted to make 20% alcohol from just Turbo yeast and sugar water. Can we do this and then just add flavouring after and achieve higher than 10% alcohol? is there anything else involved. We can't afford to make a distiller.
Beer making question.? I've just made my first lot of beer with a kit and it came out fine. I want to make some more and thought that maybe this time I'll let it ferment for longer, but I was wondering if you can over-ferment or not? What happens the longer you leave it? Thanks in advance.
Getting started making homemade beer? First, I do not want to get the Mr. Beer Kit. Second, I am just wanting to get started nothing to complicated. What do I do? I have found a few supply stores around my house.
